Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) Payment

The acute myocardial infarction (AMI) payment measure includes Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) beneficiaries aged 65 or older and assesses payments across multiple care settings, services, and supplies in the 30 days following a hospital admission for AMI. CMS began publicly reporting the AMI payment measure in 2014 and it will become part of the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (HVBP) program in 2021.

AMI payment measure results are updated annually. As part of ongoing measure surveillance, analyses that provide a comprehensive overview of national results on the measure or investigate select hospital practices that may impact hospital results are conducted.
